I’ve been following LivingLoving.net, a Jakarta based blogger, for quite some time now.  Every now and then, they organize gathering plus artsy workshops.  I love to participate in their workshops if I could (see here for my previous workshop with Livingloving.net).  So, when I saw the email newsletter about the food photography workshop, I immediately booked my ticket for it.

The workshop was super productive.  First, the instructor (@ditut) explained the basic photography skills like the use of aperture, speed and ISO (very useful info!).  Then, we learned about food photography: styling, props, themes, and lighting.  Lastly, after lunch, we worked in groups to practice with our cameras.

It wasn’t as easy as I thought before.   Shooting the pictures was pretty straight forward, but the most challenging aspect for me was the concept making and the food styling.  When we took the photographs, we had to create a theme which consistent with the food.  It could be based on the ingredients, the food’s characteristic, or the overall background story relating to the food.  And the most important thing in food photography is lighting, lighting and lighting.

Overall, it was a really fun activity and I really had a great time.  Cant wait for another LivingLovingNet session in the future!
