Kyoto in two days

Kyoto was always on our top list for our Japan trip in 2015.  We did consider going to Disneyland, but then we thought it wont be really worth it since Amelie was too young to ride anything and she wouldn’t be able to enjoy it as much as she would if she were older.   Hence, we selfishly booked a weekend trip to Kyoto instead.

I would totally recommend Kyoto for anyone who has a spare weekend.  The city is different from Tokyo and used to be main capital city.  You’ll see people (both the local and tourists) wearing traditional kimono and yukata walking around the city. I really love its traditional and ancient vibe.

If you’re like me and Aldy, impulsive travelers (aka minimum preparation), the first thing that we always do is to go to tourist information center (usually around the train station area) and immediately decide the itinerary based on the available time slot that we have.  Luckily, Kyoto was pretty equipped and the officers were really helpful to give us some itinerary suggestion for our quick weekend getaway in Kyoto.

Our rough itinerary for Saturday was, took the first train to Kyoto (took around 3 hour), went straight to Fushimi Inari Shrine (had a lunch there), then stroll around the Gion district (old geisha town), and then shop at Nikishi Market.  As for Sunday, we checked out from our airbnb in the morning, put our luggage in the station’s locker,  took a half day city tour with a bus (there’s plenty tour with different option that you can book from the train station) and then went back to Tokyo in the afternoon.

Fushimi Inari Shrine was definitely the highlight and it was amazing. We struggle a bit with the baby’s stroller since there were a lot of stairs… huff.. But once you get through it, it was fine.  This is the main tourist area so expect lots of people taking pictures and selfies.  However, like any shrine, there is not much action or other attraction there, so this place is only suitable for anyone who appreciate history and architecture.
