My husband and I wrote a glimpse of Lille story here, but I I think this city deserves more words and pictures to describe how I really felt during our short trip there. When we first arrived in Lille, my first impression was this is such a gloomy chilly town (it was fall at the time). However, despite the cold weather, I was still excited because I really want to see the town where my best friend Rya spent her years studying the phd degree.
Since we only got 2 days in Lille, we just want to chill and look around the town without too much hustle. We spent the next morning to rest at the apartment, cooked lunch, then we walked around the main city area. Lille is a city with amazing architectures; the buildings, the churches, the statues, the opera are a typical old European castle-like designs just like in the movies. It makes me feel like we were in the middle of some medieval kingdom and whatnot. We also went to the citadel (i.e the city park), and then to the main shopping district where people were preparing for the Christmas Market.
The entire trip was fun and sweet, but if people ask me what was the memorable part of Lille for me, I have to say the dinner with our lovely hosts. Rya and Francois took us to one of their favorite local restaurant, which apparently was the place where they had their second date. It was such a fun night, the food was great, the ambiance was nice and we really did enjoy our hosts’ company. The next morning, Rya and Francois drove us back to the train station for our last destination, Paris. I surely hope that someday I will get another opportunity to explore more of Lille because I’m sure there are still plenty to discover from this beautiful city in France.
